Zimbabwean leader to hand over Comesa chair to Swazi King

APA-Harare (Zimbabwe) The current chairperson of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe left Harare for Swaziland on Monday to attend the 14th summit of the regional bloc during which he is to hand over the leadership of the 19-member Comesa to Swaziland’s King Mswati III during the three-day summit that opens on Tuesday.

The summit is being held under the theme “Harnessing Science and Technology for Development” which is a call to action by the regional leaders for greater investment in technology to boost output and increase product beneficiation.

The leaders are also expected to review progress in the implementation of the Comesa Customs Union launched during last year’s summit hosted by Zimbabwe.

COMESA consists of Burundi, Comoros, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sudan, Swaziland, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
