Thirty-nine year old Joyce Nomusa Konate was arrested at Harare International Airport after detectives discovered she was carrying the drugs hidden in her suitcase.
Detectives stopped Konate when they realised she was travelling from Delhi in India. The country is apparently a well-known source of drugs to Africa.
Officials searched her luggage and discovered a false compartment concealing two khaki packets containing just over a kilogramme of heroin.
Konate is facing charges under Zimbabwe’s Dangerous Drugs Act. She will be remanded in custody until September 14.
Commentators believe Zimbabwe is a conduit for hard drugs destined mainly for South Africa.
