A BULAWAYO woman allegedly attempted to bite the private parts of a policeman who had come to her house to help resolve a dispute between her and her tenant, a city magistrate heard yesterday.
This came to light during the trial of Rutendo Chasi’s father, Sonny Chasi, who is facing charges of defeating or obstructing the course of justice as defined by the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate, Ms Bianca Makwande.
Chasi is being accused of assaulting police officers and disarming one of them of his handcuffs in the company of his daughter, Rutendo, and grandson, Michael Mlotshwa.
The daughter and her son, Mlotshwa, paid an admission of guilt fine at Sauerstown Police Station.
Chasi is pleading not guilty to the charges.
In his defence, Chasi said he did not obstruct the police, but intervened after the policemen had stripped his daughter naked.
Mr Mazhar Petkar, for the State, told the court that on 1 January last year, Mr Emmanuel Shoko had a misunderstanding with Chasi’s daughter, Rutendo, over rentals.
The matter had also been reported to the Rent Board.
Mr Shoko wanted to remove his property from his lodgings and went to seek police assistance.
Three policemen accompanied him to the house in Richmond.
When they arrived at the house, Chasi came and ordered him not to remove the property from the house, the court heard.
He allegedly also tried to chase the police officers away.
The court heard that while he was still arguing with the policemen, his daughter and grandson arrived and started assaulting one of the police officers.
Another policeman who was part of the team removed his handcuffs intending to arrest Chasi’s grandson, but Chasi disarmed him.
It is alleged that the trio teamed up and started pelting the policemen with stones.
The court heard that it was at that time that Rutendo grabbed one of the policemen’s private parts and tried to bite them.
However, the policeman shielded himself and was bitten on the forefinger and sustained a cut.
The trio was only restrained by neighbours from further assaulting the policemen.
After the assault the policemen went back to the station, where they reported the matter.
They were taken to hospital for treatment of the injuries they had sustained.
Rutendo and her son were made to pay admission of guilt fines while a docket was opened for Chasi.
