A bus driver has been deported from the UK and another has been charged with possessing false identity documents after being arrested at Kent depots.

A bus driver has been deported from the UK and another has been charged with possessing false identity documents after being arrested at Kent depots.

One, a failed asylum seeker from South Africa, was held as he arrived at the Northfleet bus depot last month and was removed from the UK on 21 September.

The second failed asylum seeker, from Zimbabwe, was arrested on 29 September at the Dartford Depot.

The UK Border Agency said the employer, Arriva, was not aware of their status.

The management of the depots co-operated fully with the investigations, the border agency said.

The man from Zimbabwe has been remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on 12 October.

The border agency said steps would be taken to remove him from the country at the end of the criminal proceedings.

"These arrests and subsequent removal show that we do not tolerate document fraud and treat this type of crime very seriously," said Sgt Keith Michel.
