Did Baroness tell the truth? Housekeeper 'denies showing Attorney General her passport'
Baroness Scotland's former housekeeper came back to haunt her yesterday.
Baroness Scotland's former housekeeper came back to haunt her yesterday.
Loloahi Tapui, 27, emerged from a week in hiding.
And rumours swept Westminster that she is ready to reveal exactly what she told the Attorney General about her immigration status.
Political gossip websites suggested she had never produced her Tongan passport, directly contradicting Lady Scotland's claims to have gone to great lengths to verify her right to work in Britain.
The Tories called for the investigation into the Attorney's conduct to be reopened if Miss Tapui rebuts her evidence - leaving her once again hanging on to her job by a thread.
The housekeeper was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after several days in hiding.
Along with her husband of two years, she was interviewed by Border Agency staff at a police station and released on bail, pending an investigation into her right to be in Britain.
Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling questioned why the original investigation by the Border Agency, which is part of the Home Office, had been concluded so swiftly without investigators speaking to 27-year-old Miss Tapui.
On Tuesday, it was announced that Lady Scotland would be fined £5,000 after she admitted failing to photocopy documents she was said to have been shown when she took on the Tongan - a visa over-stayer - six months ago.
