Diarrhoea outbreak in Harare

There has been an upsurge in diarrhoea in Zimbabwe's capital, Harare, but health authorities yesterday denied the city was experiencing a fresh outbreak of cholera.

Deputy Minister of Health Douglas Mombeshora denied there was an outbreak of cholera in Harare, but admitted that 16 cases had been confirmed in other parts of the country, and that there had been at least five fatalities.

Clinics around the capital recorded a higher than usual number of complaints of stomach ailments. Many of these cases have been attributed to unsafe tap water
