Zimbabwe fundraiser brings world music show to Norwich

This afternoon saw audiences enjoying a musical treat at The Octagon, in Colegate, as the Dumisani drumming group, from Stalham, performed alongside others including the Norwich-based Akabella choir.

Organised by the Mudeka Foundation, the show ran from 2 to 4pm, and was raising money for schools in the country.

Norfolk-based Zimbabwean performer Anna Mudeka plays a thumb piano called a mbira and helped organise the event. Her old school, called Rugare Primary School, and Warren Park D Primary School will be receiving money raised, which is expected to reach nearly £900.

She said: “It went really well and was a great success, with a lot of people turning up.

“Everything went like clockwork and it was a really nice family event, with the children who came enthralled by the music.

“I was so happy to be part of it, and it was a really positive event, and I cannot wait to call the schools in Zimbabwe. The donations we received were well beyond our expectations.”
