A ZIMBABWE Agricultural Society worker discovered skeletal remains of a child on Sunday while clearing a piece of land for farming inside the Harare Exhibition Park.

Police have since taken the remains for forensic examination to determine the cause of death and possible identity.

They have also appealed to families that missed children in the last couple of months to come forward and assist with investigations.

A Harare family lost its three-year-old son, Given Flint Matapure, during the Harare Agricultural Show in August.

He has not been seen since then.

Contacted for comment yesterday, Given's mother Ms Wengesai Diki, said they were eagerly waiting to be called to help with investigations. She said they were monitoring hourly news bulletins that were updating the nation on the discovery.

But she said they were in the meantime still looking for their son and were prepared to meet any demands to get him back.

Mr Obester Kupangwa, a groundsman, stumbled upon the remains at a security wall to the south of the park near the City Sports Centre.

Recovered with the skeletal remains was a pair of black jeans, one black sports shoe, a pair of black socks and children's yellow sunglasses.

The other shoe was recovered about 100 metres from the scene.

The remains were covered by mesh wire.
