Tsvangirai broke local taboo and married Locadia Karimatsenga Tembo, her long time lover in November. In Zimbabwe it is culturally feared that marrying in November will bring bad luck to a couple.

Informed sources told Radio VOP on Wednesday that Chief Negomo who presides over the Mazowe area, the homestead of Tembo, where the marriage ceremony took place served summons on Tsvangirai on Wednesday at his Charter house offices in central Harare to appear before a village court on Saturday to answer charges of violating the country’s local tradition.

“They (Chief’s aides) came to serve some summons but they were chased away,” said the sources.

The Tembo’s were also reportedly served with summons to appear at the village court too.

Tembo eloped to Tsvangirai’s Strathaven residence last month, some few days before the MDC leader travelled to Morocco for a meeting organised by the Amadeus Institute, an independent think tank. Tembo was left in the care of Tsvangirai’s uncle, Innocent Zvaipa, who housed her at his Greystone Park residence waiting for the return of the former labour leader to sort out traditional processes.

In a statement released last week Tsvangirai advised that he had terminated his relationship and marriage to Tembo citing interference.

The MDC leader lost his first wife Susan, who was popular with party supporters in 2009 in a road traffic accident.
