Zimbabwe Lawyers Demand Resignation of Attorney General, Alleging Abuses

By VOA   Wed, Nov 18, 2009

The Law Society of Zimbabwe has called for the resignation of Attorney General Johannes Tomana, calling him personally responsible for the harassment of its members.

The demand was contained in a petition submitted Monday to the Justice Minister Patrick Chinamasa after a march through Harare by lawyers who had previously attended court proceedings in the case of their colleague Mordecai Mahlangu.

Mahlangu stands accused of obstructing justice for sending Tomana a letter to protest certain actions taken in the case of Roy Bennett, treasurer of the Movement for Democratic Change formation of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, facing terrorism charges.
