Harare — A Chinamhora man has been hauled to court for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl at gunpoint while taunting her saying she could not do anything about it because he was a "war veteran".
Godfrey Javarani (51) is accused of forcing himself on the teen after accusing her of unleashing her goats on his crops.
Prosecutor Mrs Edith Kakuruwo told the court that on October 8, Javarani approached the complainant and ordered her to go with him to witness the damage her goats had done to his crops.
She managed to wriggle free but Javarani allegedly gave chase, caught her and continued to beat her up.
After the assault, Javarani allegedly told the complainant that to earn forgiveness she had to sweep his house.
The complainant complied and went to his residence.
Javarani instructed her to start by sweeping his bedroom.
It is alleged that he, however, suddenly produced a pistol and forced her into the room.
The State says he asked her if she knew "a game played by married people".
When she failed to respond, Javarani allegedly pushed her on the bed and raped her once.
It is alleged that Javarani stopped raping the girl when someone knocked on the bedroom door. After attending to the person at the door, it is alleged Javarani ordered her to carry bags of maize to his storeroom.
At around 4pm Javarani told the teenager that he was satisfied with the work she had done and told her to go back home.
When she got home, the girl reported the matter to her grandmother and made a police report. Javarani, who does not have a lawyer representing him, yesterday asked the court to give him time to study a medical report confirming the assault and rape.
Magistrate Peter Kumbawa remanded Javarani in custody to November 19.
