Police to deal with 'bloodthirsty' MDC T hooligans
THE OFFICER Commanding Bulawayo Province, Senior Assistant Commissioner Stephen Mutamba has described MDC T as bloodthirsty hooligans and declared war against them following the killing of Inspector Petros Mutedza at Glenview in Harare on Sunday.
He made a declaration at the conferment of newly promoted police officers at Ross Camp, the Bulawayo Provincial Headquarters in the afternoon.
Snr Ass Comm Mutamba described the late Insp Mutedza's killers as misguided and said the police force is going to deal with them 'decisively'.
"I want to express my grave concern at the unmitigated violence which is being perpetrated by misguided, bloodthirsty political hooligans and their folk and ilk. Their toxic violent agenda need s to be dealt with decisively without let or hindrance," he said.
Snr Ass Comm Mutamba said police officers should ruthlessly descend on the perpetrators as they are empowered to do so by the Supreme Law of the land.
"Go and descend on them ruthlessly. You need to know that you function in the fullness of the powers and legitimacy given by the Supreme Law of the land, the Constitution.
Section 93 (1) of the constitution states there shall be a police force which together with such bodies established by the law for the purpose, shall have the function of preserving internal security and maintaining law and order in Zimbabwe.
Snr Ass Comm Mutamba said the recent death of Insp Mutedza at the hands of bloodthirsty hooligans at Glenview has shown the force that this madness has to be stopped.
"The perpetrators need to be speedily accounted for without fear or favour. The idle chatter, charade and babble by hypocritical political and malcontents actors will not dissuade the police from the vigour," he said.
He also warned political parties to desist from practicing violence as that disturbs peace and tranquility in the land.
"Let other excitable malcontents be warned of our determination to ensure that peace and tranquility prevails in the country," he warned.
Several MDC-T members have been nabbed following the stoning of the late Insp Mutedza.
The arrests have raised tension in the Global Political Agreement.
MDC-T accuses security forces of aligning themselves with President Robert Mugabe's Zanu PF party.
The late Insp Mutedza was among officers who had gone to inquire about MDC-T's illegal rally in Glenview.
