The truck that allegedly caused the multi-vehicle accident under the Atterbury Bridge on Wednesday in which one person was killed belongs to a Zimbabwean company, says the Tshwane Metro.

The City of Tshwane's Department of Community Safety spokesperson Console Tleane says cross border authorities and the Zimbabwean Foreign Mission will now be involved in the process.

He says they suspect the man who was killed in the accident was the Zimbabwean driver of the truck.

Tleane says they are investigating possible charges of culpable homicide as well as reckless and negligent driving.

The highway in Pretoria was reopened after a closure of 25 hours, causing immense traffic delays for motorists.

Considerable damage was also caused to the bridge and the tar on the road.

Construction workers and the engineers determined that the road under the bridge cannot be rehabilitated due to the damage caused by the fire.

The fire from the truck happened under the bridge, as a result, the heat could not escape and was therefore pressed down on the road, causing damage to the infrastructure.

The truck hit several cars before crashing into a crane next to the road and as a result, the crane moved. The crane will now be dismantled and rebuilt over the weekend.
