Miley Cyrus has apparently split with her boyfriend after both talked about heartbreak on their Twitter accounts.

Hannah Montana star Miley had been dating Justin Gaston for nine months.

The 16-year-old star wrote on her Twitter page: "my heart is in two... and its all because of you.' a song i am starting to write :) ... why does saying good-bye hurt so much? (sic)"

Meanwhile, Justin pined on his Twitter: "Haven't been this miserable in a looong time...How many tears are in there? They've gotta run out soon right?"

Just last month Miley admitted the pair had been spending time apart as she promoted her current movie Hannah Montana: The Movie, as well as working on the new Hannah Montana TV show.

Justin, 20, rose to fame after appearing last year on the reality show hosted by Miley's dad Billy Ray Cyrus.

Called Nashville Star, it was a country music-singing talent competition.

Justin came 10th.

Miley had previously described the fellow singer and underwear model as "the best thing that's happened to me in a long, long time."
