SA envoy to Greece to discuss Libya, Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe and Liby are focal points in a diplomatic visit to Greece by a South African envoy, says the Department of International Relations
Deputy Minister Ebrahim I Ebrahim met the Greek deputy foreign affairs minister Dimitrios Dollis, and also discussed possible solutions to the Palestinian and the Western Sahara questions, spokesman Clayson Monyela said.
The purpose of the three-day visit was to strengthen bilateral relations, understanding and co-operation on issues including governance and climate change.
Greece and South Africa have an established trade relationship, with Greek investment estimated at Euro 280 million. This investment is concentrated in financial services, shipping, foodstuffs, manufactured products and commerce.
Accompanying Ebrahim are ambassadors Sophonia Makgetla and Rapulane Molekane.
On Thursday evening, Ebrahim attended the reception to honour Special Olympics participants. He was the guest of Joanna Despotopoulou, President of the Greek Olympic Committee of Athens 2011.
Athens is currently hosting the Special Olympics World Summer Games, in which a number of South African athletes are competing.
