Arusha - Tanzanian officials say 13 bodies and a plane seat have washed ashore on their beaches and investigators are trying to figure out if those are linked to the Yemenia Airways plane crash hundreds of miles away.

Mafia Island District Commissioner Manzie Mangochie says the bodies were both African and European and included three women. French investigators were on the scene on Wednesday to help with identification.

Tanzanian police spokesperson Mohammed Mhina says the bodies were found near a plane seat and a sheet of metal with an "Airbus" inscription on it.

Yemenia Flight 626 crashed June 30 while trying to land in the Comoros Islands with 153 passengers aboard. Only one 12-year-old girl survived.
