Emirates buys 30 Boeing 777s
Emirates airline has ordered 30 Boeing long-range 777 aircraft worth a combined 9.1 billion dollars, the Dubai airline said at the Farnborough airshow. "We have a long and successful relationship with Boeing and I am pleased to announce that today Emirates has placed an order for an additionnal 30 Boeing 777-300," said the airline's chief executive Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
"Our decision to further expand our 777 fleet reflects our plans to continue to build our fleet of the future and grow our expansive global network, which already spans six continents.
"It also demonstrates our commitment to operating a modern fleet that not only enhances the passenger experience but our operational efficiency as well," he added.
Emirates further boosted its reputation as the world's most bullish airline with the order, which comes a month after it spent 11.5 billion dollars on 32 Airbus "superjumbos" - the biggest contract in civil aviation history.
