Zimbabwean academic to contest presidential elections as independent
A UNITED-STATES educated Zimbabwean academic Dr Raymond Chamba has announced that he will contest the forthcoming presidential elections as an independent candidate.
In a Press Statement to The Zimdiaspora.com, Dr Chamba who is currently in Zimbabwe said: “. I am running on an Independent platform to enunciate the promotion, and cultivation of a grand all inclusive national vision rather focus on the false, contrived differences between us as Zimbabweans”.

He warned that in 2012 Zimbabweans will witness a critical ratcheting up of political diktat and a strident deepening of the people’s resolve that has never been seen before. A decisive confrontation is inevitable, he added.
He added: “My candidacy will bring new tools and stratagems to responsibly internationalize rather than local political impasse in ways that have never been tried here before. No more unholy silent nights in a deep Herodic repression. It’s time to swiftly move towards free and credible elections”.
“I posit a new era of inclusive politics that’s alive to the interests of its main shareholders of this nation-the young generation and quite appreciative and understanding of the unique and special place of older generations among us. As the old Negro adage goes - a mind is such a terrible thing to waste, but in post independence Zimbabwe we have a funny habit of destroying talent and frustrating ingenuity”, said Dr Chamba who describes himself as a wooly liberal with steely entrepreneurship acumen.
Dr Chamba who was educated at the University of Washington said: “Political pimps, old ringmasters, petty egoists and narrow ethno-centrists need to be put to pasture. It’s an answer to those true patriots who for much too long have hoped for a strong nation found on the commonality of our hopes for progress and prosperity rather than bound by a common fear”.
He added: “As a proud son of Chitungwiza a city long promised, much abused, a lot vulnerable, the city of those who first left in droves when job-opportunities and hope dried up, please see it in its proper context. It’s the potholes, blocked sanitary lanes, destroyed shelters of Murambatsvina, dark streets, and exposed raw sewage speaking back. The voice of Dean Kambasha, Rufaro Gwanzura, Learnmore Jongwe, Lookout Masuku, Lazarus Nzarayebani, Tinashe Chamba, Zororo Duri, Edgar Tekere, Christopher Giwa and other comrades and martyrs speaking back…”.
“In a new Zimbabwe we need a new approach, i.e. creation of new opportunities and creating the new enabling environment for new dreamers and dreams to come to fruition. No country prospers by living and scrounging off of old dreams. We need to allow for the baking of new economic cakes, rather than the dizzying rally around slicing old ones. Those people who are lucky enough to be hopefully new owners of single farms should not nauseate us with political shrill-cries for continued government support. They should be left to sink or swim on their own just like many parastatals that are a quintessential drain on the national fiscus,” said Dr Chamba.
