Black student put in the 'naughty corner'
By Special correspondent Thu, Feb 02, 2012
A teacher who singled out five black children and made them sit at the back of the classroom in USA has been put on paid leave after parents protested.
Outraged parents say Tim Olmsted, a white teacher at the Heights Community School, must be sacked.
"He told the whole class that it was easier for him to teach rich white folks than poor black people," Latasha Tolbert, whose daughter was placed in Olmsted's class, told the TV station.
He also told her daughter that she was likely to end up on the highway begging for money, according to the report.
Tolbert said she went to the school's principal with her complaints, but nothing happened. Finally, she ended up moving her child to another classroom.
Olmsted was placed on paid leave two weeks ago, but an attorney representing three of the families in the classroom said she will file a lawsuit if he and the school's principal are not fired.
Tolbert told the TV station she had no idea how a racist teacher was even allowed to work at the school in the first place.
"There's no need for you to work with children because there's colour everywhere," she said.
