Robert Mugabe's portrait and rude children performing a goose-step march have ratcheted up the friction between two neighbours who are at war on the southern tip of Africa.

Dorcas Fellinger is hauling her retired neighbour from Cape Agulhas to the Equality Court over his alleged racial taunts, lewd behaviour and death threats.

Johannes Cornelious Munno Glas also stands accused of erecting a giant statue of a penis on his property to taunt his new neighbour, Fellinger.

The drama has taken yet another twist as Glas - described as the ultimate neighbour from hell, who had exposed his buttocks in public - laid the blame for the war of words on Fellinger's doorstep.

Telling his side of the story, at a local watering hole where his girlfriend Beverly Herrman works, Glas now insists he is the victim.

Herrman also claimed she had been called a "Jewish Pig" by Fellinger, who allegedly displayed posters of a pig on a human body along with Mugabe's portrait outside her home.

Her parents were of German-Jewish descent.

While refusing to discuss some of the many allegations against him - because they featured in various cases before the courts - Glas said the rumpus started after he was slapped with a R200 fine because his barking dogs irritated Fellinger.

"It has never been about race, they're trying to make it look that way," he said.

He was accused of setting his dogs on construction workers building Fellinger's new home.

Glas, however, pooh-poohed the accusation and said he had in fact given the workers tinned food to cook on a gas stove.

"Those people were hungry and were going to start trapping birds, now that would have been a problem," said Glas.

Fellinger was accused by Glas of trapping and cooking the town's pheasant population. Glas said he has lived at Agulhas for 17 years in peace until his new neighbour moved in.

He claimed his early morning, outdoor coffee routine was spoilt when Fellinger's partner, Godfrey Southern, reflected sunlight in his eyes with a mirror.

"They're always trying to provoke a reaction out of us," said Herrman.

The neighbours have taken each other to court over a dozen times.

Glas was recently cleared of four charges of crimen injuria and one for damage to Fellinger's property.

He has filed responding papers protesting his innocence in the Equality Court - which has still to set a date for the case to be heard.

Said Fellinger: "I told Glas' lawyer in front of the magistrate that he is a pig. If anyone takes out his genitals and bounces them in his hand to me and dangles his long testicles in front of me, he is a pig."

Glas said his neighbour's children performed a goose-step march like German soldiers, screaming "kill the Jew", whenever they saw him.

"We have no problems with other people in the area ... it sounds wrong but it would make me happy to see them sell the place," Glas said.
