The Home Affairs Department has given its Zimbabwe a month extension on the deadline to supply their citizens in South Africa with passports. The documents are for Zimbabweans who have applied for permits to live and work in the country.

Home Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said 60,000 of the 280,000 applicants do not have passports. She granted the country a four-week extension to the June deadline but no more. “We cannot wrap up everything until everyone has a got a document,” said Dlamini-Zuma. Zimbabwe Home Affairs Minister Theresa Makone said they are able to produce 4,000 passports a week. They are also helping Zimbabweans obtain documents like birth certificates so they can apply for passports.
