A Harare businesswoman reportedly burnt down her husband’s Borrowdale house destroying household property and a vehicle worth millions of United States dollars, over a marital dispute.

Tsitsi Mutangi, the managing director of an estate agent, and her husband, who runs a construction company, had been married for 14 years and had three children.

“This happened two weeks ago after a misunderstanding with my wife. She over- reacted and went to the extent of burning down the new house and the new property I had bought,” said Mr Bernard Mutangi, the spouse.

“We are still trying to mend our relationship even though a lot of damage has been caused,’’ he added.
Tsitsi reportedly followed her husband to the new house, which is under construction but almost complete, and told him in front of 26 construction workers that she wanted a divorce and was tired of living with him.

She drove back to their other Borrowdale home and when the husband followed her there she reportedly told him that he had to vacate the house within six days as she was no longer interested in him.

The husband claims that the previous day he had spotted his wife sitting outside the house with her friend, Anne Matonga, a divorcee, chatting.

The husband reportedly moved to the new house because of problems at home. The wife is said to have since filed for divorce.
She reportedly took a two-litre container of paraffin to the husband’s new home and splashed the liquid on his clothes, furniture and parts of the house. Together with two of her friends, they then set the premises on fire.
The matter was reported to Highlands Police Station.
