A Rushinga woman allegedly dragged a mentally-ill man almost half her age to her bedroom and forced him to be intimate with her.

Eunice Kamwana (51) of Chimugwariti Village under Chief Makuni was not asked to plead to charges of sexually abusing the mental patient incapable of consenting to sex when she appeared before magistrate Ms Feresi Chakanyuka last Tuesday.

Kamwana was remanded in custody to today when her trial is expected to open.

Appearing for the State, prosecutor Mr Privilege Gobvu told the court that the incident occurred on October 14 at around 9pm when Kamwana accosted the 25-year-old man near her homestead where she was drinking home-brewed beer.

It is alleged Kamwana, who was well aware that the man was a mental patient, told him that she intended to be intimate with him and subsequently held him by the hand.

She took him to her bedroom and forced him to be intimate with her before freeing him, the State alleged.

The matter came to light the following day when one Sherry Tembo informed the victim’s father that she had seen his son being dragged into Kamwana’s hut.

The father quizzed his son, who narrated his ordeal. The father reported the case at Mary Mount Police Station, leading to Kamwana’s arrest.
