HARARE, Zimbabwe — The Zimbabwe prime minister's party says one of its major disagreements with longtime ruler President Robert Mugabe over sharing the key posts of ten provincial governors has been resolved ahead of a summit of regional leaders.
HARARE, Zimbabwe — The Zimbabwe prime minister's party says one of its major disagreements with longtime ruler President Robert Mugabe over sharing the key posts of ten provincial governors has been resolved ahead of a summit of regional leaders.
Nelson Chamisa, spokesman for the former opposition group, said Friday it gets five of the posts, Mugabe's party gets four and a small breakaway former opposition faction gets one. He said this meets the terms of an agreement to share official posts after disputed elections in 2008.
Mugabe is expected to swear in the governors after Aug. 24.
The Southern African Development Community meets in Namibia Monday and these appointments show that Zimbabwe's shaky coalition deal, mediated by regional leaders, is on track.
