Blairgowrie fire victim’s brother haunted by sight of dead body

By Special correspondent   Tue, Aug 18, 2009

A Zimbabwean national has told of his anguish after learning of the death of his only sister in a fire in Blairgowrie, Randburg, earlier this month.

Maice Moyo died of her wounds on the day of the blaze.

Her South African boyfriend, known only as Thabo, and their 14-month-old twins, who were also in her room on her employer’s property when it was set alight, have since died.

On Monday afternoon, Robert Moyo described how he identified his sister by one of her legs as her face had been burnt beyond recognition.

He said he was still haunted by the sight and had trouble sleeping at night because of what he saw.

A lawyer representing the family said Moyo and her boyfriend had an argument on the day of the fire. But the attorney said there was no evidence suggesting one of the partners started the fire as a result of the quarrel.

Robert Moyo said his sister and her boyfriend had a stormy relationship. He claimed Maice was often beaten.

It is understood the deceased woman is survived by four children aged eight and 13. The youngsters are living with relatives in Zimbabwe.- eye witness
