A small window opened in the freezing weather to allow us to hold our Vigil as normal – although with depleted attendance. The current cold spell has been the worst in living memory so early in the winter.

VIGIL supporters discussed President Zuma’s state visit to the UK. We were surprised that, on the eve of his visit, he called for the lifting of EU targeted sanctions against Mugabe and his cronies.

MOST of us at the Vigil have relatives or friends who have taken refuge in South Africa. This is hardly surprising given that an estimated 1 in 4 Zimbabweans have fled the Mugabe meltdown.

Three years into the coalition government and Morgan Tsvangirai is a well-travelled man. He has nothing else to keep him busy as he has no power to do anything except Mugabe’s bidding and Mugabe wants the Prime Minister to go around grinding out the sanctions tune.

BRITAIN is one of the most generous aid donors to Zimbabwe. Official aid alone runs to about £80 million a year. It is carefully dispersed by the Department for International Development but that’s not good enough for the masochistic Guardian.
